Description:
This butterfly was only recently recognized as a
different species. It resembles Colias hyale very
closely; only the larvae are readily separable, but the chromosome numbers are identical.
Like the other Colias species, Colias australis never rests with his wings unfolded, so
that photo-pictures of the uppersides of the wings are not possible under normal
circumstances.
Flight period:
Two or three broods from May to October.
Larval host plants:
Hippocrepis comosa.
