Subfamily: Coliadinae
plate australis

Description:
This butterfly was only recently recognized as a different species. It resembles Colias hyale very closely; only the larvae are readily separable, but the chromosome numbers are identical. Like the other Colias species, Colias australis never rests with his wings unfolded, so that photo-pictures of the uppersides of the wings are not possible under normal circumstances.

Flight period:
Two or three broods from May to October.

Larval host plants:
Hippocrepis comosa.

Red List Germany: 3
