This beautiful small butterfly (it is really small with a fore-wing span of less than an inch) is rare, but locally common. It can be found in marshy meadows. The male is marked by reflecting blue colours (texture colours) on the upperside of the wings. With the females these colours are restricted to the borders of the wings.
One brood from May to June.
