Description:
The male of Apatura ilia is, like the male of
the Purple Emperor, marked by his texture colour. (For closer
information see there.) A different form of Apatura ilia is Apatura
ilia f. clytie. This variety has reddish spots and bands instead of white.
Flight period:
One brood from June to July. In southern Europe also a second brood from August to
September.
Larval host plants:
Tremble poplars and Black poplars.
