Description:
A fritillary from the high mountains who can easily be confounded with another species: Boloria pales, the Shepherd's Fritillary, which lives in the same habitat.

Distinguishing marks:

  Boloria napaea Boloria pales
Upperside
Color of the male: usually bright orange. usually more yellowish or brown.
Color of the female: often darkend, with a violet gloss. rarely darkend.
Patterns of the wings: fine stripes. stronger stripes.

Flight period:
One brood from June to August.

Larval host plants:
Violaceae and Polygonaceae.
